Open Government
Listen to 5 Minutes w/ Justin Nickels: Open Gov't (mp3)
In order to have any faith in your government, you have to have the opportunity to watch your government at work. I will implement a strong policy of transparency and openness in the Mayor's office, just as I have worked to do on the Council, successfully changing Council rules to allow for public input at all Council meetings instead of half.
Here is what you can expect from a Justin Nickels administration:
- The Mayor’s office will be sufficiently staffed during normal business hours.
- All constituent calls and emails will be returned in a timely fashion.
- Mayor’s calendar will be kept updated online and visible to the public.
- Quarterly listening sessions for the general public, so everyone has a chance for one-on-one discussion with the Mayor.
- Weekly radio, newspaper, TV and web updates on City programs and initiatives, providing as much information to the taxpayer as is allowed by law.
- Regular email updates for those citizens who wish to join the email list.
- Constituent surveys mailed to all citizens annually.
- Audio and Video of all Council meetings and committee meetings available on the City’s website.
- All meetings agendas will be online sufficiently prior to time of meeting. All meeting minutes will be online in a timely fashion upon completion of meeting.
- Provide online public input opportunities for those citizens who are unable to attend regular council meetings.
